How I Show Up

Dr. Tynisha N. Worthy (鈥08, 鈥21) isn鈥檛 afraid to ask the tough questions.

It all started when she was working as the volunteer & special events coordinator for Lighthouse Youth & Family Services, where she recruited volunteers for the organizations鈥 programs, planned fundraisers and worked with community stakeholders.

鈥淚 saw a lot of young people coming in for various reasons,鈥 she says. 鈥淎nd then I would see them later鈥攐n the news, harmed in some way or that they had harmed someone. Or they would come back. I was curious about the policies we had in place. How do we change the environment these young people are in? How do we fix things? The role of a nonprofit is supposed to be that they are created to solve problems. But we weren鈥檛 solving any problems.鈥

  • 鈥淜now that the pace of change in higher education is only accelerating. It will not be easy. But it will be incredibly gratifying work. We will get there together.鈥


  • 鈥淚 will be teaching third grade at St. Peter & Paul School in California, Kentucky. I have 12 kids in my class, and I鈥檓 super excited about seeing them grow from start to finish throughout the year.鈥
